WOOL SALES

NAPIER SERIES RECENT ADVANCES MAINTAINED STRONG ALL-ROUND DEMAND (Per United Press Association.) Napier, January 17. The third Napier wool sale of the season commenced to-night, when a representative catalogue was placed before a full bench of buyers. Thtf sale so far is the most satisfactory held this season, competition being exceedingly brisk, and at no time did the bidding ease up, every section of the trade being anxious to secure wool, and bidding up fully on to limits, with the results that passings were practically nil. Bradford lifted the grea’test weight of wool, and Continental buyers were a close second. There was a small amount of super for America, and this was taken at good prices. There was apparent a very substantial advance in fine wools and lambs, of anything from 4d to Id. The advance on crossbred was not so great, being from Id to 4d. For coarse and low grade wools there was little or no improvement, though the market was firm, and the same applies to inferior qualities. Pieces and bellies sold very well, but prices for neck pieces were not as good as in December. SYDNEY WOOL SALES. PRICES WELL MAINTAINED. (Rec. 12.55 a.m.) Sydney, January 17. The market was animated, with prices fully equal to the closing rates last week for all descriptions, and with a particularly strong demand for the finer grades. Greasy Merino sold to 39d.—A. and N.Z. INVERCARGILL SERIES. The following is the draw in order of selling at the Invercargill wool sale, which is to be held at 7.30 p.m. on January 27 Dalgety and Co. Wright, Stephenson and Co. National Mortgage and Agency Co. J. E. Watson and Co. Southland Farmers’ Co.-op. Association. J. G. Ward and Co. New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co.
