WELLINGTON ZOO

ELEPHANT AND TIGRESS LANDED. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, January 17. There was landed on Saturday from the Sussex a young elephant and tigress for the local zoo. The elephant, which will be known as “Nellie,” appears to be quite docile and obeys the commands of her keeper Sheia Arju Hi a readily. The tigress, on the other hand, is a veritable shrew. On the voyage out she was in charge of the ship’s butcher, who did his best for her. She responded by taking a few slices out of his hand when he fed her. Yesterday she refused to gratify public curiosity by remaining out of view all day.
