REFUSAL TO RESIGN

NOVA SCOTIA LEGISLATOR’S STAND. CHALLENGE TO PREMIER. Halifax, January 13. Mr. Jason Mack, president of the Nova Scotia Legislative Council, has written to the Premier, Mr E. N. Rhodes, refusing to resign on the request of the latter, who wished to appoint a Conservative successor. Mr. Mack, who is a liberal appointee, states in a letter: “There is considerable doubt as to the legal power of this Government to dismiss the president of the Legislative Council. In the circumstances I do not think it is in the public interest to adopt your suggestion to resign my office," —A. and N.Z.
