GENERAL STRIKE
TRADE UNION CONGRESS REPORT. ISSUED CONFIDENTIALLY TO DELEGATES. London, January 16. The report of the Council of the Trade Union Congress for the long-deferred inquest on the general strike in the state of a special conference of executives affiliated to the Union on January 20, has been issued to delegates as a confidential document to be published on the day of the conference. It is understood it consists of two sections. The first summarises the mining dispute and the course of events to the culmination of the general strike and explains the Council’s motive in calling off the general strike. It. repudiates certain statements in the last-mentioned connection. The second deals with subsequent events to the end of November, including the Trade Union Congress mediation efforts. It comments outspokenly on the mining dispute, defending the Trade Union Congress’s attitude towards it.—A. and N.Z.
