DAVIS CUP
MEETING OF TENNIS COUNCIL. PICKING TEAM FOR 1927 MATCHES. Melbourne, January 17. A meeting of the Australian Tennis Council appointed a committee to watch the form of contestants in the Australian tennis championships at the end of this month and pick a team, if thought advisable, to participate in the 1927 Davis Cup matches. The Council agreed to permit matches between amateurs and professionals provided State Tennis Associations were placed in full control of the matches and the proceeds were devoted to some tennis purpose. It was also decided that Australia vote in favour of Germany being allowed to enter the Davis Cup and favouring the Cup being competed for annually.—A. and N.Z.
