(Received June 27, 5.5 p.m.) Their performances in the first half of the cricket season show that Hobbs, Hendren, and Heafne will certainly be invited to go to Australia. Hendren’s consistency is remarkable. He is equally sound in attack and defence. He has splendid stamina, and is a first rate versatile fieldsman. Hendren is a professional footballer, but he informed the Australian Press Association that he would gladly forego the football season for the Australian tour. Hobbs and Hearne do not foresee difficulty in going. Rhodes is sure of an invitation for his bowling alone. Though he is also high in the batting averages, he has reverted to his old place as the outstanding bowler in England. Warner considers that Rhodes is still indispensable for tests on his present bowling fqpm. Though it is twenty years since he first toured Australia, Rhodes told the Australian Press Association that he hopes to renew his pleasant acquaintance with Australian cricket. Woolley is another certainty on all-round form. Among the amateurs, Douglas and Knight stand out, and are sure to receive invitations if their current form is maintained.
