PRICE OF EGGS.
To the Editor. Would you please excuse rr.e for troubling you hut as everybody denies profiteering, how do the grocers of Invercargill sell fresh eggs at 3/- per dozen and buy them at 2/3, I asked on Monday, 21st, at one of the leading grocers what w’as the price of eggs and was told 3/-, then 1 asked what they were giving for fresh eggs and was told 2/3. Now, don’t you think that is a pure case of profiteering, making 9d per dozen on eggs. Hoping I have not taken up too much of your valuable paper, —I am, etc., ’ ENQUIRY. (Inquiries made at the Grocers’ Association office elicited the information that the wholesale price of eggs was fixed at 3/- in May and no alteration has been made since that elate, although some grocers were now procuring fresh eggs at from 2/6 to 2/9. The wholesale price of eggs in March was fixed at 2/3 hut few could be bought at that figure anti for a time some grocers wore paying over 3/- a dozen for them Ed. S.T.)
