FISHERIES TREATY
BRITAIN AND THE UNITED STATES. A SENATOR’S PROTEST. (By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) WASHINGTON, June 24. (Received June 25, 5.35 p.m.) Mr Jones, chairman of the Senate Merchant Marine Committee, sent a letter to Mr Colby, Secretary of State, in which he states: —“Peradventure within five years neither upon the North Atlantic nor the Pacific will there be a fishing vessel under the American flag. Should the proposed fisheries treaty between the United States and the British be adopted it would give Canadian fishing vessels preferential privileges in United States ports, including freedom from port duties."
