SUNDAY EVENING CONCERTS.
To the Editor. Sic. —My congratulations to “Tweedledum” for giving us one of the most readable letters which have appeared in your paper. His support of “Disgusted Bandsman,” who is probably very young and very wise- and conscious only of the latter quality, meets with my hearty approval. The getting rid of the Irish and Scottish element in our Town Council is a matter which ought to appeal to all citizens who make even the pretence of having an intellectual equipment equal to that of “Disgusted Bandsman.” “Where there is no vision the people perish,” is a slogan around which he, “Tweedledum” and I can rally. Why not an Invercargill purely colonial Town Council? Have we not had a Colonial Bank? Are there not in this very town Colonial Chambers which architecturally would surprise the shade of dear old Christopher Wren? We have precedent and wo cannay we must succeed. None of us are infallible, not even “Disgusted Bandsman,” but I confess that his description of the Ministers’ Association as being a “wowseristic body” pleases me; it is so singularly novel, telling and tactful. Of what after all is this association composed: me'hinks of cultured, educated mostly University men. To the devil with culture, education and universities, and in the words of “Tweedledum” “let Invercargill flourish by the playing of the bands on Sundays 1” I am, etc., TAURUS. June 24.
