O SCOTIA LAND OF LEAL AND FREE. (Dedicated to J. L. MtG. Watson, Esq* Chieftain of St. Andrew's Society). (Written for the Southland Times), There is no land in all the Earth, No land from pole to pole. Like that dear land that gave us birth. The land that charms our soul. Or North or South, or East or West, Wherever we may stray, Thou art the land we love the best O Scotia! stern and gray. O Scotia, land of leal and free, Dear iand of purple heather, All Scottish hearts in love of the* Shall ever beat together. In Winter wild thy rugged Bens Are robed in purest white; In Spring thy smiling winding glens Are visions of delight; In Summer all thy dells are blue With bells that sweetly Wow; In Autumn moor and mount with hu# Of blooming heather’s glow. Thou hast been free thro’ ages past. Free as they native air, And free thou shalt be to the last Whatever foeman dare. Our sires, our son;-:, have bled and died To make thee what thou art; Their blood has dyed the mountainside, The red blood of their heart. Our feet may wander far away, Our hearts are all thine own; Let come of weal or woe what may We will thy name enthrone. 0 land of Wallace, land of Bruce, O land of Robert Burns, Land of the thistle, heather, spruce, To thee each Scotsman turns, —Robert Francis.
