LONG SERVICE MEDAL

NEW CONDITIONS OF AWARD. Amended regulations were gazetted recently dealing with trie granting of the New Zeaian.i Tong and Efficient Service Medal. It is provided now that the medal will be uwaruecl to ah members ox the New 'Zealand Military Forces who have served efficiently in (i.e same for sixteen consecutive year.-, or lor a total period of 2U years, which need not necessarily be consecutive. Senior cadet- will be allowed to count onehull of their efficient service in the senior cadets a.s qualifying service, but those ovet the age oi LS years who have been retained for service as senior cutlet n.c.o.’s will be creffited with full time service, if such lie I efficient, performed by them subsequent to the date on which they were due for postl ing in the Territorial Force. Half the period of efficient service in the Territorial Force Reserve will be admitted as qualifying service. Providing applicants were members of the New Zealand Military Forces during the period, their active service overseas will be counted twofold. Active service during the war of 1914-19 will be computed from date of embarkation from New Zealand to date of disembarkation on return, or date of discharge overseas, or date of declaration of Peace (28th June, 1919), whichever be the earliest. Applicants also will be credited with efficient service during such time as they may have actually served (a) as members of the N.Z.E.F. in New Zealand; (b) as members of the Temporary Staff of the New Zealand Forces subsequent to sth August, 1914; or (c) as officers with Territorial units having been called up for such duty temporarily, subsequent to sth August, 1914, irrespective of the fact that they may have been at. the time officers on the Reserve of Officers or Retired List. The colour of the riband of the medal wall be crimson, with two white strines down the centre.
