PETROL SUPPLIES
A SHORTAGE THREATENED. EXPECTED TO BE ACUTE NEXT MONTHS. (Special In the Times.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 10. A decided shortage of petrol is threatened in Christchurch and indeed the whole of the dominion. Already suppliers are reducing bookings and the Vacuum Oil Company, Ltd., the principal distributor, has notified customers that it is unable to accept further ex store orders for Pume. There is no real .shortage to-day, but distributors are simply anticipating and endeavouring to provide for a scarcity next month. It is quite on the cards that there will be a famine in motor spirits throughout the winter months. The position is due to shipping and to trouble in obtaining supplies from America. It is considered that the North Island i« worse off for petrol than the South, so that the acute shortage will develop there earlier. It may be that the Board of Trade may decide to give preference to the north in allocating future supplies.
