The crew fought the fire ail day, and failing to master it Caplain Johnston made for Ttmaru as the nearest port. The Man,iron arrived there at 7 p.m., and the Fire Brigade was sent for to assist. A large quan'ity of water was poured into the hold, but the fire was still burning at 11 p.m. It was the Manama's first trip after reiittim;. and Captain Johnston's first in iier.
