The house was situi at'-d at the corner of Gala street and Mci Master street, with a frontage to the east • and north, and the section contained half lan 'acre of ground. The Education Departj mciit had been approached some time ago i in regard to a subsidy of £ for £ on the ! building and hind purchased, and a reply | hj id been received that under the KindcrI garlca Schools Act a subsidy could he ' granted. ( 'I he committee expressed themselves as j highly gratified that after their arduous I work of looking for a house that, would ! meet with the approval of the Department, : in eminently suitable one had hen obj t ained. [ Special committees were set up to go into the question of furnishing and obtaining quotation? for the necessary article?. A Utter of thanks to the Hon. J. A. Hanan w’s authorised to be sent for hi? services in connection with a grant, and also one to M''s Hide for special services rendered. A cheque for £27 from the Hospital Saturday Association was received, being 5 •>-r cent, of the takings. Arrangements it! regard to the Children’s Day in September were then considered, and it was decided to ask the various societies that helped t" generously last year to again give their services. The societies to he ' ivere the V.M.C.A. Ladies’ Auxiliary, the (.’mitral and South W.CLT.U.’s., the VV. 'Junket Society. V.W.C.A., Progress and Industrial Co.-operative Asociety, and aUo the schools. As only flowers are to be sold fm Children’s Day, the work of collecting and making up will not make such n gr°at demand on the workers’ time and patience. The date of the annua! meeting was fixed for August, when a report of the work done would leg presented to a public meeting. Already gift? tire being sent in for the "Children’s House’’ and now that the house E in existence much more help is confidently expected. One country district has generously promised to give all the linen mid napery required for the hou?e, and several promises of crockery have also been received.
