ABOUT PEOPLE
Mr and Mrs W. D. Hunt were passengers from Auckland by the outward-bound ■ trainer Makura en route for Great Britain. Miss E. T. O'Connell, relieving telephone supervisor, who ha.- been temporarily staItoned in Invercargill for some months, proceeds to-morrow to Tirnaru to act in a similar capacity ar, that office. Mr Bert Black, who was, a member of the 81-'ck Family Concert Company, and was wadi known throughout Southland, died recently in Sydney. Mr Black was a native of Invercargill and after his father retired he organised a company of his own. He continued in work until his death. On Friday Dr Jack, Professor of Physics at Otago University, will visit Invercargill for the purpose of delivering a popular lecture on "Atoms and their Radiations.” Professor Jack’s lecture is one of a series arranged by the Otago and Southland Synod and if it is a success it is hoped next year to secure more than one lecture for Invercargid. Southland contributes to the Synod funds for the maintenance of four professors at. the University, and it is because of that fact that Professor Jack is to lecture here.
