MAKING RACEHORSES PAY.
To the Editor. Sir.— I suppose one ran only admire th? delightful candour with which Mr I’. T. Hogan tells us that his training opftttlon? have resulted in a failure from a financial point of view for the whole of his patrons (and they must comprise a lengthy list) with the exception of Mr F. A. Pries. In common farimess it is to be hoped that the impression will not pet abroad that all Southland trainers have the same truly dismal record to chronicle. I have frequently been informed by patrons that one Southland trainer for years showed a profit for practically nil the owners for whom he trained. This trainer did not keep three jockeys and six stable lads and 20 to AO horses on his establishment. A select team of six to eight horses with a head lad and two stable ItwU completed the establishment. No horse remained a member of that team unless he hail an excellent prospect of paying his way. Everyone knows that P.T.11. can pet- a horse well, also that ho has had some good horses through his hands. Why then this almost unbroken series of financial losses? —-I am. etc, PUNTER.
