NORTH MAKA R !•:WA, The friends and neighbours of Mrs (nil, North Makarewa, met together on Thursday evening to hid her farewell as she has so'.d her farm and is retiring to Invercargill. The gathering was remarkable for the .social friendliness' of those who had come to do honour to Mrs Gill. A most enjoyable concert took up the early part of th? evening. Later Mr J. McLean nrrsentod Mrs Gill with an easy chair and Mr .1. McNeill handed a pipe and tobacco pouch to Mr James Gill, who is not leaving the district, and h:us been held in much esteem by his neighbours for his good nature and helpfulness. Several speakers referred in glowing terms to Mrs Gill’s hospitable ways, and to her real kindness in sorrow and sickness throughout the more than thirty years of her residence amongst them. Mr Galt suitably responded for Mrs Gill; Mr James Gill also responding. The singing •F' id recitations were of a high order, and the concert party was accorded a very hearty vote of thunks.
