MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Southland County Council vt'is hold yesterday, their being present Messrs W. Norman (chairman), I'. Fraser, O, Robertson. G. Clark, R. Baird, While, A. Stewart, G. Hunter and C. Ker.-e. The following communications were rcferred to the officials intere.-te;l : - r rom the Crown Lands Commissioner re a proposer, res-'rvation over section 1(0, block 1, Oteraraika Hundred; W. Taylor, Mast Road, re drain on road; a petition front Wannatua re watercourse along road; W. J.Blatch re contract; Whittingham anrl Go., re Collimrwood drainage; hj. lot-hill, Wintnn, re culvert; A. Watson, Retreat, re drain; D. Sullivan, sen., Makarewa, re ditch; three Mutuum settlers re M ataura-iledgehopc roail. Letters from the followin': were dealt with as under: — A. G. Muir, Five Rivers, was granted permission to plough the sides of the road adjoining his boundaries; the secretary of the Wa.imatua school committee, re the need for gravelling the road to (he school - held over; W. JVrrinm, Kapuka, rc contract for Irwin’s Road- referred to the Finance Committee; W. .1. Wallace, Hokonui, re maintenance of McDonald’s road —£100 grant to be applied for; H. N. Dawson, Kennington, re mistake in contract—referred to the Finance Committee; Reck Bros., Mataura, re Craig’s road; matter to receive attention in the spring; L. A. Niederer, Gorge Road, re erection of telephone line —permission granted; Tokonni Cemetery Trust, request for grant of £lo—granted ; T. McContry, Longridgc Village, re fencing contract —received; K. W. Canne! 1 , Springhills, re road from Springhills—tenders will he called in the spring; Mrs ,1. W. Parker, Brydone, re erection of verandah posts — permission granted; Mrs Mary Rule, Mataura Island, asking permission to erect telephone posts —grunted; four settlers of Onio were granted a similar permission; William Curran, Wallucetown, re drainage at Otatara —copy of letter to be sent to the Invercargill Borough Council; D. Tuffrey, Timpany’s, re the Massey tramway road —to be attended to in the spring. The resignation of Mr George Lynch as surfaceman for the Riversdale district was accepted, and Mr W. Dawson was appointed in his stead.
