Arrangements have been made for Mr Justice Ewing, of Tasmania, to act as a Royal Commissioner to inquire into the cases of the dozen imprisoned Industrial Workers of the World, with wide powers to review old and new evidence and decide whether the convictions arc sustainable or the sentences excessive. BRITISH RED CROSS. GIFT TO AUSTRALIA. MELBOURNE, June 9. The British Red Cross Society has remitted through the Governor-General £150,000 for distribution amongst institutions and nursing organisations solicitous for the welfare of the soldiers’ and sailors’ dependents. The gift is allocated as follows: —£23,000 each to New South Whiles, Victoria, South Australia, W'est Australia and Tasmania, and £20,000 to Queensland. RAIN IN NEW’ SOUTH WALES.
