THE STEAMER HAVRE
STILL DRIFTING HELPLESSLY. (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) BRISBANE, June 9. A wireless from the Havre picked up at noon yesterday stated that she was then somewhere abreast of Smoky Cape and drifting towards Sydney.A message late at night indicated that she was steadily drifting. The Champion was not then in touch by wireless. The weather was favourable. AT THE LAST GASP. EVERYTHING GOING INTO THE FURNACES. MELBOURNE. June 9. The master of the Havre reports by wireless that the vessel is at the last gasp and incapable of sufficient, steam to keep steerage way. He is utilising everything that can be humeri, including the ship’s furniture. The Australand, bound from London to Melbourne, is in communication with the Havre and expects to reach the latter on Friday. VESSEL WELL PROVISIONED. SYDNEY, June 9. (Received June 10, 1.10 a.m.) The agents of the steamer Havre state that the vessel is well provisioned, having three months’ supplies on board. A wireless message picked up reports that the vessel is drifting south-east at the rate of three miles an hour. The tup Heroic has been with wireless and despatched to join in the search.
