ACCIDENTS
A FIREMAN CRUSHED. FALL BETWEEN STEAMER \ND WHARF. (Per United Press Association.) WELLIN'GTON, June 7. _ William Fitzgibbon, a fireman, fell from the Glasgow wharf early on Saturday night, and some time later was found crushed between his ship, the Canadian Importer, and the wharf. He is believed to have been l>iog in that position for about three hours. When admitted to the hospital about 11.30 p.m. Fitzgibbon was in a collapsed condition from shock. There was a big bruise about the base of the spine and it was found he had sustained a fracture of the pelvis. On inquiry last night a reporter was informed that the injured man was out of danger and doing as well as could be ex peered. KILLED BY MOTOR LORRY. AN OPEN VERDICT. WELLINGTON, June 7. The inquest regarding the death of Willis Combs, killed by a motor lorry, was concluded to-day. The Coroner returned an open verdict. There was, he said, some evidence of negligence, but whether it was enough to establish liability was another question. That could be determined by further proceedings.
