ISLA BANK. Calcium Hall was the scene of much activity on Friday evening when a concert and sale of produce was held with the object of raising funds to renovate the local hall. An energetic committee had been working quietly for some weeks, and the front of the hall was filled with the result of their canvass. The people of the district were present in force, while visitors from Riverion, Thombury, Fairfax, Drummond and Otahuti were amongst the large audience that filled the hall. Mr R. McDonald presided, ami the following contributed vo cal itenis to the programme:—Mrs Lilico, Misses Lilico, McKenzie and Nuttall, anil Messrs Lilico, McCrostie, Nuttall and McDonald. Mr George Duke rendered two fine violin selections. The audience recorded their high appreciation of each item in no uncertain manner. The concert was opened and closed by the singing of the National Anthem. At the conclusion of the concert, Mr Colin Lindsay, of Winton, took charge of affairs, and in a surprisingly short space of time had disposed of the gifts which the committee had received. Bidding was brisk, ami in many cases spirited, while on the whole, values were high. Refreshments were next passed round and a pleasant half hour spent over the social cup. The floor was then cleared and a large number of young people spent a pleasant hour or two dancing to excellent music supplied by Misses McNeil and Nuttall, and Messrs Duke and Nuttall. Mr Mollisou was M.C. The evening was most enjoyable, and (hose responsible for (he arrangements have reason to congratulate I hem selves. The committee are indebted to all those who so willingly assisted towards the success of the function by taking part in the programme, by donations in cash and kind, or by' services rendered in connection with the necessary- arrangements. As a result of this effort the hall funds have benefited by- about £6O.
