NEWSPRINT CRISIS
HIGH PRICES AND SHORT SUPPLIES. (By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright.) (Reuter’s Telegrams.) LONDON, June 5. (Received June 6, 5.5 p.m.) Rocketing prices of newsprint are seriously affecting papers in Canada, while editors of German papers declare that paper in Germany costs twenty limes the pre-war prices. United States continues to fare badly, but owing to Canada seeking to prohibit the exportation of raw material and force manufacture within the dominion, the difficulty is in obtaining the necessary machinery, which aggravates the position. In Canada there is a crisis as elsewhere, where the ample supplies of raw material are regarded as only temporary and it is expected that they will disappear when machinery' is available.
