SUIT AGAINST NEW ZEALAND TIMES.

Cl AIM FOR ALLEGED LIBEL. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON. June 4, The hearing of a claim for £IOOO damages for alleged libel by George von Zedlitz, professor of languages, against the New Zealand Times commenced before Mr .fustic" Edwards and a jury of twelve to-day. The alleged libel was the publication on .July 20, 1010, of a letter containing the words; “In 1014 the German alien enemy on the \ ictoria College staff was arrested for a breach of the war regulations and was released hy one of our ministers as a German alien enemy prisoner on parole, and although such was reinstated by the Cnuneil. which declined his proffered resignation,’' and also the following words: “The munificent compensation for an alien enemy declared to he a prisoner of war for a punishable offence against the realm by the Victoria College Council at the public expense contrasts strangely with the conditions under which our soldiers are treated after years of service, herd fighting and suffering on their discharge,." The hearing was not concluded to-day, and will be resumed to-morrow morning, when the defendant company’s case will be heard.
