LOCH I EL. On Friday evening last Mr A. Morrison and Mr and Mrs .1. C, Thomson were entertained at a farewell social by the residents of the Lochic! district. The climatic conditions were anything hut pleasant, nevertheless the number present was fairly representative. The evening’s function took the form of a dance interspersed with songs and can! games, Mr William Smith acted as chairman. Mr Alex. Forbes, in making a presentation to Mr Morrison and Mr and Mrs Thomson, referred to Mr Morrison’s lengthy stay in the district, during which time he had tilled his farm with success, and success in farming nowadays required a good general knowledge. Mr Forbes asked Mr Morrison to accept an arm chair from the people of the district as a token of remembrance. Mr Forbes then presented Mr and Mrs J. C. Thomson with a silver tea service, ami in doing so referred to their good neighbourly qualities anti also to their up-to-date methods of farming. Each of the recipients thanked the gathering. Later in the evening Mr E. A. Phillips, on behalf of the residents, presented a gold brooch to each of (he Misses Thomson anil to Miss Ruby Coster a silver jewel case. Miss Coster has been a resident of the district for the past six years. Mr J. C. Thomson returned thanks on behalf of the recipients The music for the dance was supplied by Mrs Thomson and Miss McConachic (piano) and Mr James Chrystal (violin).
Mr Morrison is taking up a farm at Tishtiry, and Mr and Mrs J, C. Thomson are retiring to Invercargill.
