LATE SPOTTING
THE OLYMPIC GAMES. NEW ZEALAND TEAM’S SEND-OFF. (Per Uuited Press Association.) WELLINGTON, June 2. The members of the team which will represent New Zealand at the Olympic Games were tendered a civic farewell at' the Town Hall to-day. The Mayor (Mr J. P. Luke) presided. Mr Massey, who was among those on the platform, presented Mr 11. F. Wilson with the New Zealand flag, and hoped that the leader of the team would have the opportunity of carrying the flag to victory on many occasions. Win or lose, the team would, he was sure, show themselves true ■.portsmen.
Mr Wilson, who took the flag from the Prime Minister, said that they considered if a great honour to represent New Zealand. They wanted to bring New Zealand before the notice of other countries. If trying would make winners then there were four winners on the platform. Mr Mnrryat, New Zealand representative on the Olympic Council, presented each of the representatives and Mr Walrond with a silver fern badge, with ‘'N.Z.” engraved on it. He referred to the fact that it. was the first time New Zealand had raised her flag at the games, and he was very glad to see that a lady was amongst the team, a lady who had equalled the record of the champion lady swimmer at the last gan:c.=.
THE JOCKEYS’ DISPUTE
ELLERSLIE RACECOURSE TO BE PICKETED. AUCKLAND. June 2. At an open air meeting to-night, which was addressed by several Labour members of Parliament, it was stated by some of the speakers that pickets would be stationed at the railway station gates and at the entrance of the Ellcrslie racecourse to-mor-row. It would be the duty of the pickets to “mark” members of trade unions attending the races and report their names to their respective organisations. They would also use their persuasive powers to endeavour to induce intending racegoers to change their minds about going to Ellerslie. It is understood that the tramw’aymen will refuse to run race trams, but will carry out all their other duties in connection with the tramways service.
