(Received June 8, 1.5 a.m.) A round table conference was held to endeavour to arrange a settlement of the Broken Hill strike, but failed to reach liualit}’. It will be resumed to-morrow. STAND AGAINST STOP-WORK MEETINGS. DISMISSAL OF STOVE-MAKERS. SYDNEY. June 2. Five hundred stove-makers have been dismissed by Matters, Limited, in consequence of friction between the employers and employees, the [alter frequently holding stop-work meetings with a view to enforcing their demands. AFFAIRS IN NEW ZEALAND. TARATU MINES IDLE. (Per United Pres? Association.) DUNEDIN, June 2. The Taratu coalminers did not return to work to-dsy. The company have two mines ordinanly in full work and a third mine is Icing opened up. All arc idle to-day. The company claim that the point at issue should have been referred to the National Disputes Committee according to the national agreement.
