The Pope, in an eneyheal letter recommends a policy (£' reconciliation between the spiritual and temporal powers of Italy, »nd asks Catholic princes to show their o;w ponents the greatest toleration. It forgives *U who distorted the Papal intentions in war-time, and rescinds the prohibition against Catholic rulers visiting the King of Italy, but emphasises that this must not be interpreted as a tacit renunciation of sacrosanct rights; otherwise the Pont ill will renew ht.s predecessor's protest for the purpose of safeguarding the rights and dignities of the Holy See.
