INFECTIOUS DISEASES
ANOTHER SMALLPOX CASE. On Saturday a young lady who has contracted smallpox was admitted to Kew. No oilier cases were reported on Sunday or yesterday. All the doctors are at present busy vaccinating, hut there are numbers of citizens who evince a prejudice against this means of precaution. In conversation with a Times representative, Dr Ritchie, who has been sent by the Health Department to watch proceedings in Southland, expressed surprise at the attitude of these people. It was strange, he said, that, rather than undergo a little temporary inconvenience—and even that was not necessary in every case -■there were those who were willing to taka the risk of contracting a malignant disease.
