INCREASE OF FARES. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, May 28. The recent increases to tramwaymen will ’ii t, about £40,000 per annum. An Orcler-;n-Council limits the fare to fourpence for our sections and therefore the amount for this distance cannot ho increased till the Order is varied. The City Engineer reported to the City Council in favour of a minimum cash fare of twopence, rising to fito nonce for six sections. Al! concession ticket■ me increased. Mr Hutchison (Labour member) moved an amendment to the adopt on of the report in favour of deferring the increases until the actual effect of the higher wages i--pen, and then if more revenue is required file graduated rate he on the level of un improved, land values. The amendment was lost by 13 to 4, mly (he Labour members voting for it The new rates were adopted.
