CLEARING SALE AT OTAUTAU. The National Mortgage and Agency Co., Ltd., report having held a most successful clearing sale on Monday, May 24, on account of Mr Edgar Sharp. The day was hue and drew a very large attendance oi buyers from all the surrounding districts. The stock appeared in good nick and the sundry lots, etc., were laid out in good order. There was keen competition for every lot offered, and consequently resulted in a first-class stile. His excellent herd of 60 dairy cows attracted much attention and sold exceptionally well at tip-top prices. The following arc some of the principal sales:—

On Tuesday, the 25th, the National Mortgage and Agency Co., Ltd,, conducted another successful clearing sale of stock and implements on account of Messrs Macdonald and Brownlie. There was a good attendance of buyers from far and near and each lot offered brought satisfactory prices. The horses offered were an exceptionally staunch lot and were keenly competed for. The sheep were in fair condition with a nice lino of good forward wethers. BURNSIDE MARKET. (Per United Press Association.) DUNEDIN, May 26. There was a very' heavy yarding of all classes of stock at Burnside to-day, and selling was continued until dark. Eat Gat tie.—2B4 were yarded. The yarding was of ordinary quality, no cattle oi special merit being forward, as is usually the case at the sale preceding show week, and prices were on a par with late rates. Prime bullocks made from £2l to £24 2/6; medium, £lB to £2O; lights, £ls 10/- to
£l7 10/-. Store Cattle.—There was a full market with good competition. There were several pens of better quality than have been seen for some weeks. A large number of veal calves sold well, as also did several pens of four to five-year-old bullocks with a good showing of cArmiition, Prices were about 7/6 above law market rates.
Fat .Sheep.—4Soo were yarded, a large yarding, the quality on the whole being of higher standard than recent yardings. As the congested condition of the local freezing works will be immediately relieved by shipments, freezing buyers wore active competitor?. this resulting in prices being well maintained. Prime sheep were 1/- per head dearer, while secondary and inferior sheep were in many cases a shade easier than the prices ruling a fortnight ago. Extra prime heavy-weight wethers brought 62/0 to 73/-; prime, -IS/- to 60/-; medium, 35/to -15/-; light, and unfinished from 28/-; extra prime heavy-weight ewes to 50/-; prime, 40/- to 46/-; medium, 33/- to 3S/-; light and aged from 25/- up. Lambs. —1433 were yarded of mixed quality, including a few lots of extra special, these latter selling under keen competitiou, freezing operator? actively buying at prices in advance of kite rates. Quotations — Prime heavy-weight iambs, 50/- to 57/-; prime lambs. 28/- to 40/-; medium, 24/to 27/-; lighter kinds from IS/- up. Pig--.—There was a good yarding of pigs and good competition, hacon-curer.s being well represented. All good quality animals sold readily at prices on a par with late ruling rates. Prime baconcrs realised lOd to lid per lb, and prime porkers, IQAd to 11 Jd per lb.
ADDIRGTON MARKET*
CHRISTCHURCH, May 26
At the Addington market to-day there were slightly smaller yardings of all classes of sheep, but fat cattle showed an increase. Prime beef and mutton maintained good values, and there was an advance in prices for both prime and secondary, but store sheep showed a distinct easing. Store Sheep.—The market for all classes was dull throughout. Forward lambs, 20/to 25/6; ordinary - lambs, 15/9 to 19/6; cull lambs, 13/- to 14/6; ewe lambs, 17/1 to 19/6; 2, 4, 6, and 8-tooth owes, 20/6 to 23/9; inferior 2, 4, 6, and S-tooth ewes, 14/- to 20/-; 2-cooth ewes, 22/8 to 28/-; good 4, 6, and S-tooth wethers, 28/- to 34/-; ordinary 4, 6, and 8-tooth wethers, 25/6 to 27/6; inferior 4, 6, and 8-tooth wethers, 22/9 to 24/0; good 2-tooth wethers, 20/9 to 29/3; inferior 2-tooth wethers, 21/7 to 24/3. Fat Lambs.—-For prime the market was good. Extra prime lambs, 35/9 to 40/-; prime lambs, 2S/- to 33/6; medium lambs, 25/3 to 2?/6; light and inferior, 20/10 to 24/9.
Fat Sheep.—The market closed very firmly at an advance on recent sales. Extra prime wethers, 47/- to 55/9; prime wethers, 39/6 to 45/ C; medium wethers, 34/9 to 3S/9; lighter wethers, 30/- to 34/6; extra prime ewes, 51/-; prime ewes, 37/9 to 42/6; medium ewes, 31/6 to 37/-; lighter ewes, 22/- to 31/-. l‘at Cattle. —The yarding included a good proportion of well-finished beeves, for which the market was firm, showing an advance of about 20/- per head on the preceding week. Lighter beef was also in better demand, and the market for all classes closed firm, particularly for prime stuff. Extra prime steers sold to £29 5/-; prime steers, £l9 to £26 2/6; medium steers, £ls 10 / - to £lB 15/-; lighter steers, £9 10/- to £l4 10/-; extra prime heifers, £l3 17/6 to £l6 17/6; ordinary heifers, £lO 17/6 to £l3; extra prime cows, £l3 10/- to £ls 17/6; ordinary cows, £9 2/6 to £l3. Store Cattle —Eighteen-months steers, £4 15/-; two-year-old steers, £7 2/6; store cows, £3 to £4; spring calvers, £5 8/- to £7; bulls. £3 10/- to £6. Dairy Cattle. —There was a brisk demand. Springing heifers, £0 to £2O; second and third calvers to £22; backward and inferior cows, £5 to £lO. Fat Pigs.—There was a keener demand. Choppers made £6 to £9 11/-; light baconers, £5 15/- to £6 10/-; heavy baconers, £6 to £7 15/-; extra heavy baconers, £8 7/-; average price per lb, lOd; light porkers, £3 5/- to £4; heavy porkers, £4 5/to £5; average price per lb, lid to 114 d.
