There have been grave industrial troubles »nd ugly incidents as a result of unemployed agitations in the north-west provinces. In Garni a IS communes were’ seized and the red flag hoisted. The Soviet. Government lasted a day. Heavy reinforceaaents of troops restored order.

A genera! strike, launched as a protest against the Carnia incident, was aggravated by the b-llicose attitude of the railwayman. Even prisoners refused to work, claiming an eight-hour day. The newspapers view the situation apprehensively and urge Signor Nitti to show a firm hand, the safety of Italy depending Upon it.
