LIBERAL PARTY

THE LEADER'S CONFIDENCE,

(Per United Press Association.)

CHRISTCHURCH, May 24. The Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald i* confident of the solidarity of the Liberal Party. While numerically they- are not as strong as they were prior to the general election, he said to an interviewer that the calibre of tho men and their determination to fight the cause of Liberalism are stronger than ever. "So far as one can judge at the moment, with Independents and merf-wbo are dissatisfied, the whole position outside the' solid members of the Liberal and Reform Parties is chaotic, and it will only, be after the House meets that one will be able to judge exactly the strength of the opposing forces. So far as the Liberal Party arc concerned, we fought the election with a progressive policy, and as far as possible we want to see our line of policy given effect to. It is not our intention to harass or embarrass the Government in any way, and all legislation that is for the general welfare of the people will receive our support. The last two by-clcctions, which were fought out on definite lines between the Reform and Liberal parties, were won for Liberalism, although they were both Ministerial scats and our candidates arc both new men. This is a strong indication that the country is not altogether satisfied with the Reform Party."
