DUNEDIN MARKETS.
DUNEDIN, May 22. Practically no parcels of wheat are now on offer,. and from inquiries it would appear that the bulk of the wheat has been threshed. The crop has been a very short one, but if the weather is favourable there should be greater returns next year, and already there are numerous inquiries for seed wheat. The local Government fixed prices for May are as follow:—Velvet or pearl, 7/11; Hunters, 7/8; Tuscan, 7/s—all f.0.b., sacks extra (the prices include lid per bushel brokerage). Millers’ prices are as follow; Flour, £l6 10/- to £l7 per ton; 100’s, £lB to £lB 10/-; 50’s, £lB 10/- to £l9; 25’s, £l9 10/- to £2O. Bran, £8 per ton. Pollard, £lO. Pearl barley, £35. Oatmeal, £3l to £33 per ton. The shipping demand for oats for early delivery has slackened off, but it has continued for forward deliveries, June to December. Business has been done locally at 5/10, f.0.b.5.e., spread delivery, and merchants are now asking 5/11. Growers’ offerings are light, and 5/- to 5/2 per bushel, sacks extra, on trucks, is being paid. These prices do not leave very much of a margin to shippers, who are therefore not keen buyers. The local demand for chaff has been moderate, and consignments are equal to requirements. Good quality is to-day worth £8 7/6 per ton, sacks extra, ex truck. Several shipping inquires are being received, but owing to lack of space no business is reported. There is no shipping demand for potatoes. Consignments are proving too heavy for the present local rate of consumption, with the result that prices show a further decline. Potatoes are now sold sacks extra, and to-day’s value for good quality is £6 10/- per ton, sacks extra. Medium quality is hard to quit at £1 per ton less.
