The Inspector of Police was advised yes* terday of the death of Mrs Burrowes, wife of the late Senior-Sergeant Burrowes, who was stationed in Invercargill at the time of his death. MrsJßurrowes died at Caversham, where fehe was staying with friends She leaves a large family.
Mr Ernest Toms, a member of the Treasury staff, has been temporarily transferred to the High Commissioner’s staff in London, and left by the Tofua to take up his new duties. This is in accordance with the policy of appointing to the London staff officers with recent experience of Dominion affairs. A well-known old resident of Thames, Mr James S. Hart, died recently in his 88th year. A native of Ireland, Mr Hart served in the Imperial Army from 1860 to 1867, attaining the rank of armourer-sergeant. He came to New Zealand in the ship Racehorse in July, 1868, as a military settler. For a short lime he carried on business in Auckland, but in the following September he removed to Thames.
