A PUNITIVE EXPEDITION

(Received May 19. 8.20 p.m.l The Governor-General reports that Colonel Darwell’s force concluded a successful punitive expedition against the tribes reponsible for the deaths of Majors Stigand and White in December last. The enemy’* main force was surprised, and the principal chief, with a considerable force, surrendered unconditionally.
