ADDINGTON MARKET.

CHRISTCHURCH, May 19. At the Addington market there were smaller yardings of fat s:ock to-day. Prime mutton showed the healthy tone that has marked recent markets, and there was little alteration in recent values for prime beef, but inferior beef was down, and lower prices had to be accepted lor light mutton. Store Sheep.—A good entry, mostly ewes and wethers with a good proportion of Chatham and Southland sheep forward. At the commencement of the sale backward wethers were in weak demand, but all other classes were much the same as at preceding sales, with forward lambs firmer. Forward lambs 20/- to 23/11; ordinary lambs 15/6 to 19/6; cull lambs 12/6 to 14/3; ewe lambs 23/- to 35/-; 2, 4, G and 8-tooth ewes 25/6 to 30/-; inferior 2, 4. 6 and 8-tooth ewes 25/0 to 23/-; inferior 2, 4, 6 and 8tooth ewes 19/- to 25/-; 2-tooth ewes 25/1 to 27/2 ; good 4, 6, and S-tooth wethers 29/to 33/0 ; ordinary 4, 0 and S-tooth wethers 20/- to 28/-; good 2-tooth wethers to 30/6; other 2-tooth wethers 25/- to 28/-. Fat Lambs.—A slightly smaller yarding. The market was on a par with recent sales, freezing buyers operating freely. Extra prime lambs sold to 34/9; prime lambs 27/11 to 32/6; medium lambs 25/- to 27/6; inferior lambs 21/6 to 24/9. Fat Sheep.—There was a noticeable easing in the values of light ewes, but for prime mutton the market was on a par with last week’s. Freezing buyers operated to a fair extent. Extra prime wethers 47/to 59/6; prime wethers 38/6 to 45/6; ■ medium wethers 34/- to 38/-; lighter wethers 28/1 to 33/6; extra prime ewes 47/-; prime ewes 36/- to 43/6; medium ewes 31/to 35/-; lighter ewes 22/- to 29/-. Fat Cattle. —Extra prime steers £25 10s to £32 ; prime steers £lB 12s 6d to £24 12s 6d; medium steers £l4 12s Gd to £18; lighter steers £8 17s 6d to £l3 12s 6d; extra prime heifers to £l9 2s 6d; prime heifers £l3 5s to £l6 10s; ordinary heifers £7 17s Cd to £l2 15s; prime cows £l3 5s to £lB ; ordinary cows £S to £l2 17s 6d. Store Cattle. —Best cows sold to £8 ss; other lines £3 to £5 15s; bulls £l4 15s. A line of Hereford calves brought £3. Dairy Cattle. —Cows, fourth calvers up to £23; good heifers up to £18; inferior cows up to £l2; small and inferior £3 to £7 10s. Vealers. —Runners to £7 ss; good vealers £5 17s Od to £6 10s; medium vealers £2 7a Gd to £2 17s 6d. Calves, —Small Ss to 37s 6d. Fat Pigs.—There was a good entry, the market showing a weakening demand. Choppers £6 to £9; light baconers £5 to £5 15s; heavy baconers £6 10s to £7 ; extra heavy baeoners £S to £S 11s; average price per lb 9id to lOd; light porkers £3 5s to £3 15s; heavy porkers £4 to £4 10s; average price per lb 10d to 101 d. TEA PRICES. PROSPECT OF INCREASE. Latest tea market reports received by a local merchant from Ceylon convey the information that a steady advance in prices may be looked for. Buyers were, at the time of the advice, allowing a keenness to operate, ami recent cables reported heavy Loudon buying. It would appear that tea drinkers need not look for any decrease for some time yet.
