CHEAP PATRIOTISM.
To the Editor. Sir,—As usual when anj'thing is doings Invercargill is all sixes and sevens. It ia about time something should be done to regulate hours of closing and holidays. Yesterday I understand a meeting of retailers was held the final decision being to close as usual on Wednesday afternoon and all day Thursday. I.n this evening's paper there Is an announcement that the fancy goods shops will open from 10 to 12 on Thursday morning to sell flags etc. (perhaps). For shops to open here when they have been closed from end to end of New Zealand will do our town no good. Surely the business people can let the everlasting grubbing after the country people go for once. I trust the loyal section of the public will note the shops whose patriotism does not rise above a few flags.—l am, etc., KIA ORA,
