The release of Inter-State shipping traffic f;om Government control does not relievo the shipowner dearons of trading Australian registered tonnage overseas (New Zealand inelude.li from the obligation of obtaining Government permission before removing a vessel from the coastal .service. Already the release of shipping has been followed by several applications of this nature to the Controller of Shipping. Questioned on the matter, the Controller reiterated a previous intimation that the release of shipping did not affect the War Precautions Regulation that prohibited the re-moval--for trading purposes or by sale of an Australian vessel from the coast without the consent of the Minister of Customs. This regulation, he said, which had operated in connection with the recent control of shipping movements, was still in existence, by virtue of the time extension of the War Precautions Regulations relating to shipping granted by Parliament towards the close of last session.
