WANGANUI SENSATION

MAYOR CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER. A VISITOR SHOT. (Per United Press Association.) WANGANUI, May 16. A mysterious affair occurred on Saturday afternoon. A young man nemed Darcy Cresswell, aged 24, who belongs to Tim am and who arrived at Wanganui on a visit a few days ago, was conversing for some time with Mr C. E. MacKav, solicitor, at the latter’s office. Subsequently a chair was thrown through the window and ahota wer# heard. Cresswell was taken to the Hospital with a bullet in his breast, and Mac Kay was later on brought before justices and remanded till Monday on a charge of attempted murder. Cresswell is making satisfactory progress. MacKay entertained Cresswell and a friend at dinner at a local hotel on Tuesday evening. As accused is Mayor of the town, the incident has caused a sensation.
