REVOLT IN MEXICO
CARRANZA HEMMED IN. REFUSAL TO SURRENDER. {By Telegraph,—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) NEW YORK, May 14. Messages from El Paso state that the revolutionists are hemming Carranza in between Mexico City and Vera Cruz. Carranza refuses to surrender, though guaranteed safety and freedom of movement. The last Carranza garrison is surrendering to-day.
BRITISH CONSUL MISSING. CARRANZA’S ESCAPE TO THE MOUNTAINS. MEXICO CITY, May 15. (Received May 16, 6.5 p.m.) Carranza, after fighting and losing a battle with the revolutionaries, escaped to the mountains, accompanied by a small force. Reports of the surrender of Carranza continue to be received. (Received May 16, 5.5 p.m.) Carranza’s forces suffered several hundred caualties hi heavy fighting in the region of Haceonda and Tambiz, in the State of Puebla during the last 48 hours. British circles are worried over the fate of Mr John B. Body, British Consul at Vera Cruz. Mr Body was last reported from Mexico City on the train on which the President fled. British subjests in Mexico appealed to their Government to send a warship to Vera Cruz, and one vessel at Bermuda was ordered to proceed immediately to Mexican waters.
