ACCLIMATISATION
SOUTHLAND COUNCIL MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Southland Acclimatisation Society was held in the secretary’s office last night, Mr A. H. Slock (president) being in the chair. Mr F. Harrison, Tuatapere, wrote asking that, the Society make that part of the Orawia running through his property a sanctuary. It was decided that the site was not suitable and the application was refused. The Stock Committee reported that the hatchery was in readiness for the coming season, and there had been good freshes in the Mataura and Waimumu. The works put in at the mouth of the latter stream had stood well. The Lakes Society gave its permission to take ova from the Lpchy river, and the committee recommended that. Mr N. McKay, Dipton, bo engaged to do the stripping. The report and recommendations were adopted. The following committees were elected; Stock: Messrs J. Collins, Stevens, Strung, G. I. Moffett, T.
