VAGRANT VERSE
A NOCTURNE. (Written for the Southland Times.) Cold are the stars, but my heart ia warm— Life is good and my love is near— What is there now that my heart need fear? Where is there harm ? Softly the breeze is whisp’ring low— Life is good and the night is sweet— 4 Heart of all hearts, though the hours are fleet, Why need we know ? Dawn is at hand and the day comes nigh— Life is good and the nights return — Why should we mourn while the lovelamps burn For my sweet and I? Death looms abroad with his greedy eyes— ? Life is good though its bliss must end; But what for us can the grave portend ? Love never dies. —Shaun O’Sullivan. Invercargill, May 14.
