HON. G.J. ANDERSON
ELEVATION TO THE CABINET. CONGRATULATORY SPEECHES. The newly appointed Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon G. J. Anderson, M.P., for Matnura, was yesterday the recipient of many congratulations on his elevation to Cabinet rank. There could be little doubt about the sincerity of these expressions of goodwill, although one Job’s comforter who, Mr Anderson declared, never votes for him, called his attention to the fact that the four previous members for the district elevated to Ministerial rank had been defeated at the election subsequent to the honour being conferred on them. The first opportunity of public recognition of Mr Anderson’s promotion was taken by the Mayor of Gore (Mr A. Martin) who, in the course of welcoming the Hon. J. G. Coates to the town, referred in glowing terms to the deservedness of the recognition of Mr Anderson’s service to the district and the country. At a later deputation at Titipua, Mr J. Mclntosh and a number of the speakers were also loud in their praise of the new Minister. Three ringing cheers were given by those present for Mr Anderson and “Fo* He’s a Jolly Good Fellow” was sung with gusto. At different stages the Hon J. G. Coates, Minister of Public Works, also referred to Mr Anderson in complimentary and congratulatory terms. For all these remarks Mr Anderson briefly returned thanks, declaring that he would do his best to carry out his new duties as he had done to execute his old functions.
