The secretary reported that during the month there had been a good deal of sickness of a mild nature throughout the district, and in consequence all the Board’s institutions had been kept busy. The appointment of a second house surgeon and a full time masseuse was recommended for the Southland Hospital. The installation of a complete X-ray plant was, owing to the lack of room, abandoned until the new hospital at Kew was erected.—Adopted. The secretary of the Southland Division of the B.M.A. wrote forwarding the following motion, which was carried by the Southland division:—“ln the opinion of this division there is urgent need for the establishing in the province of Southland of a sanatorium for the treatment of tuberculosis; further that a more suitable site than that of the present institution at Kew could easily be obtained within the province. The ideal scheme would be n national comprehensive one including relief of dependents, farm or forestry colonies etc., but failing this, in view of the increasing number of cases of pulmonary tuberculosis, the division would urge that the Southland and Wallace Boards take immediate and united action to provide such an institution in a suitable part of the province.”—Received, the resolution to be forwarded to the Hospital Board’s Conference for consideration.
