(Special to the Times.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 13. At Rice art on this morning Karo, who lot Adopted get a three lengths break over the first three furlongs, was under a good pull, having his companion well beaten long before the post was reached in I.IS £-5. Deely was on Karo, Arnythas, jumping off at the seven furlong peg, was picked up by Mustard Pot between the four and five, and the big horse was doing his best to keep on terms with his stable irsito when the winning post was reached in Imiu 29 2-ssecs. It was an attractive performance, tvs they were- well out and ran the last half-mile in 61sec?. Amylhas was carrying about 5.2. Arrow-smith alone, and with fully 9.0 up, began slowly, and as it took him 26.2-5 secs to run the first two furlongs he finished very well, running six furlongs in 1.17 £-5.-ec.s and not doing his best. Waimai, who has quite recovered from his recent mishap, pulled up quite sound at* the conclusion of a mile. Bonny Maid easily accounted for Onslaught over the concluding stages of a six furlong run in I.IS 2-5. Onslaught is nor himself, and finished badly. Coalition gave a finished exhibition in doing a round of the big fences, hia showing being the best of the morning.

FOOTBALL. REG BY LINTON MEETING. The weekly meeting of the management committee of the Southland Rugby Union •was held in the Orphans’ Club rooms last night, there being present, Messrs A. H. Gediies, A. Derbie, ,1. Scully, D. R. Campbell, G. Cameron, C. Boyce, I. Jenkins, A. Rowe, X.. I’osrcr and T. Meredith, R. Hall made a personal application for regrading from senior to junior, fie stated that he lived at W oodend and desired to play for that club. He ha'! played for Star ten; ts about two years ago.—Declined. An application from Win ton for the transfer and regrading of A. Langmuir, who played for Riverton last season, was held over till next meeting. The Bluff club wrote asking for the regrading of J. Shaw to third grade.—-De-clined. W. Tinnock applied personally for a transfer from Collegiate to St. George Old Boys.—-Granted. The headmaster of Bluff School, Mr H. McChcsney. wrote asking for a donation toward the expenses of the school fifteen. The sum of £3 3s was grunted. The Referees Association wrote complaining about the state of the Eastern Reserve and Tweed street ground which had no lines marked. It further reported the following clubs for late starting;—Waikiwi and Invercargill 15 minutes, Athletic juoiora
20 minutes, and Winton 40 minutes. Mr A. Dcrbie was empowered to instruct the coreinker to have the grounds marked before the next matches. When commenting upon the Winton club being forty minutes late the chairman stated that the town team arrived early, and the country team was busily engaged erecting new goal posts. It was resolved that the dubs concerned be written to and warned, and that their attention bo drawn to the rule relating to late starting. The Wnirarapa Union wrote stilting that until Southland returned its visit the union’s representatives would not visit Southland. Wellington and South Canterbury unions ivrote stating that their representatives would confer with the Southland delegates nt the annual conference in Wellington with regard to dates for intcrprovincinl matches. 1 With regard to the application of the S"Uthland Ladies’ Hockey Association for assistance, it was decided that the union set aside a day and play a match on one area, the other area to be allotted to the Hockey Association to arrange a hockey match, the net proceeds to go to the Southland Ladies’ Hockey Association. The High School was granted byes for a fortnight. The games for Thursday morning, May 30, on Rugby Park were set down as follows:—Athletic v, Waikiwi and Union v. Public Service at 9.30 a.m.; Invercargill v. Star and Bluff v.
