DECRYING AUSTRALIA
I BRITISH UNIONISTS REBUKE. An interesting light on the British trade union view of immigration to Australia is given in a letter written by Mr W. A. Appleton, president of the International Federation of Trade Unions, to Mr A. Clemenson, assistant secretary of the Perth ] metropolitan council of the Australian Lab- | our Party. Mr Clemenson had written to 1 Mr Appleton drawing a most gloomy picj tuns of the position of Western Australia, i and stating that an influx of immigrants | would aggravate the position, unci make 1 the task of the Labour movement a much ! harder one than it is to-day. He expressed the hope that Mr Appleton would warn the British workers accordingly, i Mr Appleton, in reply ,says;—‘The pic- : ture you print suggests extraordinary incapacity somewhere.
