SCHOOL COMMITTEES

HOUSEHOLDERS’ MEETINGS. HELD ON MAY 3. Ardlussa.—Mr J. R. Keown presided, Th# annual statement showed a credit balance of £27 14s. The following were elected a committee for the ensuing year:—Messrs A. E. Chapman (chairman), H. Cromie (secretary), J. R. Keown, Thomas Dawson and C. J. Pump a. Arrowtown.—About eight householders were present and Mr John Bifid presided. The roll number for the school is 60 and the average attendance for the year was 52. The annual statement showed a credit balance of £7 2s Id. The following were elected a committee for the ensuing year: Messrs R. M. Paterson (chairman), Rev. J. Rattray (secretary), D. R. Barron, G. Summers, and S. Stevenson. Balfour. —There was a small meeting of householders, Mr G. Hercus presided. The roll number is 83 and the average attendance for the year was 68. The annual statement showed a credit balance of £ls 14s Id. The following were elected a committee for the ensuing year:—Messrs Robert Grant, junr. (chairman), G. Hercus (secretary), A. P. Scobie, George Greer and John H. McMath. East Chatton. —About ten householders were present and Mr E. Casey presided. The roll number for the school is 21 and the average attendance for the year was 18.35. The annual statement showed a credit balance of £lO 9s 2d. The following were elected a committee for the ensuing year;— Messrs E. Casey (chairman), J. Cruickshanks (secretary), J. Ford, M. Hekia and D. Elder.

Mossburn. —The annual householder^ meeting was held on the 3rd inst. for the election of the school committee, ten being present. Mr F. J. Turner presided. After the report and balance sheet were adopted, a discussion took place in regard to tha inadequacy of the school accommodation for the number now attending, viz., an average of 42 out of a roll number of fifty. The air space for each scholar (as laid down by the Education Department) only allowed for 36. It was decided that the secretary write the Department urging them to find accommodation for the junior scholars until the extension of the school was completed. The committee for the ensuing year was elected as follows: —Messrs F. J. Turner (chairman), J. Dore (secretary), F. Christie, E. Mealy and W. Young.
