THE GORE SCHOOL

PROVISION FOR “CARRYING ON.” NEW BUILDING TO BE BEGUN AT ONCE. The secretary of the Southland Education Board (Mr F. G. Stevenson) who went at once to Gore when the news was received that the school had been burned down, told a Times reporter yesterday that he had made arrangements for the hiring of five halls in which the children will be taught in the meantime. These halls arc situated in the north, south, east and west of the town respectively, and, although the lack of concentration means that the teaching will not be under the direct supervision of the headmaster, it is thought that the arrangements will suffice very well as a makeshift. The sixth standard children will be taught in a partly demolished room of the school. It is hoped, according to Mr Stevenson, to have all the classes resumed by Monday next. Building operations in connection with a new school are to be undertaken immediately, and the plans are now being prepared by the Board’s architect. The new building will be of brick.
