DIRECT Si DEMENT FIGHT. The fight j»ut up by the Invercargill Chamber of Commerce to obtain direct shipments of goods from England io Bluff, and thus save transhipping delays and expense* has advanced another s:ep. A coble wa* received by the .secretary, Mr D. ye.-sterduy, advising that a comer would ba sailing from Loudon at the end of August* and that if Invercargill combined and guaranteed Stiff urns of freight, direct biffs of lading for Bluff would be issued. The same 1-crm? couhl be ont-airied from tho West of England ports in December. The secretary said that h- would be pleated if any importers would communicate with him and give full particulars of their shipments so that the c.j 'port unity of secure ing a direct steamer should nor be lost.
